When you write in, it helps to include your device model, the app version (Settings tab), and a short description of what happened.
How do I create or join a trip?
On the first screen, tap Create a trip to start your own, or Join a trip and enter an invite code someone shared with you. Everyone on a trip sees the same places, map, and plan in real time.
What is the recovery phrase and why do I have one?
Faraway has no password. Instead it gives you a private recovery phrase generated on your device. It is the key to restore your trips on a new device, so write it down and keep it somewhere safe. We never see it and cannot recover it for you.
I lost my recovery phrase. Can you restore my trips?
We cannot. The recovery phrase never leaves your device and we have no copy of it. If you still have the app installed on a device, your trips are there. If a trip is shared, anyone else on it still has access and can re-invite you.
Why does Faraway ask for my location?
To show how far saved places are from you and to place you on the trip map, while the app is open. Used this way your location stays on your device. It is optional, the app works fine without it, and it is never used for ads or tracking.
Can my trip members see where I am?
Only if you choose to. Location sharing is off by default. If you turn on Share my location in Settings, the other members of that trip can see you as a marker on the map while the app is open, in case you get separated. We keep no location trail. Turning sharing off, or leaving the trip, removes you from the map right away.
Does Faraway work offline?
Yes. Once a trip has loaded, it stays available without a signal, so you can open your places and plan even with no connection. Changes sync again when you are back online.
How do I delete my data?
Delete individual places or whole trips inside the app at any time. Uninstalling the app removes the on-device data and your recovery phrase. For help removing shared trip content, email us.
